Dad came up and brought the stairs with him. Those things are huge. If you dropped a single one of the treads (the bit you walk on) from a height of more than a foot it'd probably kill or injure you severely. The man we bought them from loaded them up on the trailer with a bobcat. We made a good college try at just lifting them up and carrying them in and quickly realized that wasn't going to work at all. We ended up dismantling the thing (a few times) carrying it in and adjusting it.
Andrew from work showed up to help for a few hours at a critical time of trying to shuffle the stairs around, and was a tremendous help. Joshua worked so hard I'm going to pay him: he helped me get about as much plywood on as we could before we had the stairs in place, and stayed busy helping through my entire 4 days off. Heather's been moving our stuff while we build (and sometimes helping out as we build), and we're pretty much moved out of the apartment now. YES!
The air right now near the house is sweet with honeysuckle. We put up a bird feeder and a hummingbird feeder (yes, I know a hummingbird is also a bird, but they eat different stuff). We've actually got a couple temporary wren residents sharing the house with us, we noticed them building a nest last night. No worries, it's going to be a bit before I need to get there, they'll probably have moved on by then. If not, well, I don't think they eat much. I've left them a little bird seed out in case they do, though.
Here's a bunch of pictures! :)

Upstairs, facing left (ie, SW) . Note the newly installed AC unit. It's on it's own circuit, and we ran power to 4 outlets in the house too (on their own circuit, also).

Thick foggy morning, the clouds were resting in our valley. It was a little surreal, but in a beautiful way.

Note the giant, ridiculously heavy, hernia-inducing blocks of solid stone that were hand dragged from remote points of the property to for a nice little wall/bench. Did I mention that they were ridiculously heavy??
Dad's going to Africa in a couple days, it just goes to show what kind of person he is that immediately before he leaves on a grueling trip where he'll be paying to go work very hard to help other people, he made a stop out of his way to work very hard to help other people. He's just kind of like that.
Well, back to work. Thanks for reading, more to come soon!
